This survey compares food hubs, cooperatives, subscription models, public markets, fiscal sponsorship, compost systems, vertically integrated farms, and digital marketplaces. It evaluates how each model redistributes producer risk, buyer friction, coordination work, and the value created by local agriculture.

This article is a business-model survey of organizations and operating approaches that attempt to make participation in local agriculture more equitable (i.e., lower risk for producers, lower friction for buyers/consumers, and more stable channels for value capture).

For each model, the emphasis is on:
